We developed the SynBioArt course for the Royal Art Academy in the Hague to allow young artists to explore their role in the emerging field of synthetic biology.
In this course a theoretical and practical introduction covered the basic concepts of DNA technology and synthetic biology.

Tinkering with nature also raises numerous questions about safety, security and ethics. Is this technique too beautiful to ignore or are we allowed to take evolution into our own hands? The controversies around this technology and its connections to art were discussed as well.
The students developed projects in which the artistic values and the developments in synthetic biology meet.
